In Year 6, we are currently reading October, October by Katya Balen.
October lives in the woods with her dad and they are self-sufficient. They are wild. When October turns eleven her world is turned upside down when the woman, who calls herself her mother, turns up and October's flight instinct takes over. Dad has an accident and is rushed to hospital and October has to move to the city to live with the woman (who calls herself her mother). How will October fair living in a place that is completely different to the one she is used to and with somebody she barely knows?
Jim says, "This is an interesting book. I am enjoying reading the story and how October is now finding out more about the world than just the woods. I'm enjoying her descriptions of the city"
AJ says, "October, October tells us lots about emotions and how the characters are feeling. It's good to read about the stories that she makes up to help her deal with being in a new place."
So far we would give this book 4 stars! The story really paints a picture in your mind of what life would be like for October and we enjoy the stories she tells throughout. We can't wait to find out what happens next and if her dad makes a full recovery.
