In Year 1, we are currently reading “All Are Welcome” by Alexandra Penfold. Illustrated by Suzanne Kaufman.
Follow a group of children through the day in their school, where everyone is welcome, no matter their race, religion or background. This joyous read-aloud lets children know that they have a place, they have a space and they are welcome in their school.
Jermaine says “It makes me want to be everybody’s friend.”
Ruby says “I like the pictures. They show us how we should be.”
The children in Year 1 are loving this book! We have discussed how it promotes a safe, happy school environment and talked about what things we can do to ensure everybody feels included. The children have shared their own stories about their backgrounds and cultures and you can see how interested they all are!
