Year 6 A Place Called Perfect by Helena Duggan

This excellent book is all about the main character (Violet) moving to a new town ‘Perfect’ with her mum and dad. However, after a few cups of delicious Archer’s tea and a good night’s sleep Violet and her family wake up blind! This Perfect town is overly perfect- nobody can be that neat and tidy and perfectly behaved all the time… or can they?!

Violet keeps hearing voices, her mum is acting strange and her dad has disappeared- what is really going on in this strange town? Something is not quite right about this town and when she meets her new friend ‘Boy’ she realises that her dad is not the only person to have vanished. There is definitely a secret and they are going to find out what the mysterious and unsettling Archer brothers are really up to!!

Daisy says “I like the book because it is creepy. There are loads of cliff hangers and you are always left guessing what will happen next. This book has really captured our imaginations and we can’t wait to read it at the end of every day!”

Leyla says “I like this book. It is filled with suspense- which has helped me with my writing. There are loads of mysterious characters like Boy and the Watchers. We can’t wait to find out what happens next!”

Majd says “This book really keeps the readers engaged. We listen in complete silence and always want to figure out what could happen next. We really recommend this book!”

So far we’d give ‘A Place Called Perfect’ 5 stars! It’s incredibly chilling- a world where people can change our perception of the place we live is very concerning! We really don’t want it to end but we are dying to find out what happens next at the same time- thankfully there is a sequel!!
