Year 4: I Am Lenny Brown

In 4KH, we’re currently reading ‘’I am Lenny Brown ‘’ by Dan Freedman.
The story is based on a young boy called Lenny. He is eight years old and can’t talk. Except to his mum and his dog, Rocky.
Lenny’s Mum gets a new job and he has to move house and start a new school. He didn’t want to move and he was very anxious about his whole life changing. The initial start of his new school was extremely overwhelming and scary for Lenny and he felt very misunderstood. However, Lenny discovers a new way to express himself. Will he be able to settle and feel like he fits in?
Princess says ‘’ I think it’s a very enjoyable book because it’s entertaining. It encouraged me to speak up, as I grew up with stage fright. I would rate the book a 4/5.
Jahan says ‘’ It was a very good book, it reminded me of my brother because he was like Lenny Brown as he was shy. The book taught me to never give up. I would rate the book a 4/5.
Carmelo says ‘’ I think the book is excellent because in one part of the book, when Lenny was being bullied, a girl protected him and that taught me that it is not okay to bully. It also inspired me to continue to play football as it makes me happy. I would rate the book a 4/5 ‘’
As a class we would give ‘I am Lenny Brown’ a rating of 5 stars, it has pulled at our heart strings and it has instigated conversations based on ‘equality’ and we feel that everybody should be loved and treated with respect no matter what our differences are. Being unique is wonderful!
